F-16 fighting falcon game pc
What is important is how well a flight sim actually plays. I've flown a lot of simulated aircraft in my time and seen a lot of games which, let's face it is all they are that really go to town trying to get all of the dynamics as accurate as they possibly can.
F16 Fighting Falcon is another member of the pages club. I mean, let's face facts. It's from Digital Integration. When did you last hear of them not being a heavyweight design team? The key thing is that, as with Apache , they've managed to balance it with a game that really absorbs you the more you play it.
This is mainly down to the fact that they don't just simulate your plane and the components of your mission, but while you're flying from waypoint to waypoint, there's a whole world going on outside your Plexiglas cockpit.
Troops march from one engagement to another, trucks travel dusty roads bringing supplies in and out. It all feels really good and that's what counts. Not just the thrust-to-lift ratios. I've always been a big fan of the hi-res polygon over the clunky texture-map. Bitmaps are okay on anything over a P with 64Mb of RAM and more 3D accelerator cards than a 3D accelerator card shop, but with anything smaller, as soon as you get closer than a couple of miles to an object you're almost guaranteed to enter Jerkyville, where everything looks like it's buried beneath a patchwork quilt.
F16 adheres firmly to the impressive standards set by Hind and Apache and then improves on them. Most of the vehicles, weapons and so on are very detailed indeed and only have minute levels of texture-mapping where it's absolutely necessary. On the whole this looks very nice indeed. It keeps the frame rate up, even on less powerful machines Dl claim that with some of the graphics levels turned down F16 will run fine on a DX2 - although I haven't been able to test this yet.
Where it flutters slightly is with the landscape. There are wingman commands that exist; however, if you don't use them, your wingman will not go after the mission objectives I was way too busy trying to take care of my own aircraft and weapons to waste time instructing my wingman which targets had to be attacked. The enemy AI at least has a wide range of difficulty settings. You can adjust these settings on a scale to your liking.
The easiest setting is like Barney the Dinosaur flying against you, and the hardest is relevant to Quake's Nightmare level in terms of improbable odds. The AI didn't really display any talented individual flying from my experience.
This is where iF struggles. Compared to other military combat sims, the graphics are mediocre at best. Strangely, my MMX struggles to put out some decent frame rates with all the textures enabled.
The terrain mountains are mostly pyramid-shaped, regardless of the part of the globe where your missions take place. Whether you meet up with the wrong end of a surface-to-air missile or you scrape the paint off your wingman's F while taxiing on the runway, you will get the same pixelated explosion. I flew behind an enemy at 40, feet and fired 3 bullets into its rear, and BOOM!! It's not all bad; the exterior of the F and cockpit look great and highly detailed.
I flew a night mission over a heavily-defended target that brought back memories of the CNN videos of Baghdad's air defenses during Desert Storm. Unfortunately, there is no way to save or replay any of your missions.
During a mission there is always a lot of radio chatter, but very little has to do with you. One problem is the fact that all the allied planes in the air all have the same voice, including your wingman!
If you hear 'I'm bailing out! The sound preferences screen allows you to switch off the radio chatter during your missions altogether. There are the usual engine and weapons sounds, but nothing will blow you away. Report this game to Microsoft. F airplanes are capable to carry enough weaponry to destroy an entire military unit. Everything is easy to maneuver and your objectives are based on taking off, searching the enemies and throw them down before they get you.
About the 3D environment and graphics, the good intention of the producers is noticeable, but they could have worked harder. About the action, everything is as it should be.
